Opportunities for WSA Trainers and award holders

British Canoeing Awarding Body’s educational philosophy is all about supporting paddlers, and recognising that we all have different levels of experience and knowledge and as such this should be recognised enabling a paddler to gain a regulated qualification from the National Governing Body for Stand Up Paddleboarding.

For many of our awards, there are direct routes to assessment without the need for attending a training course:

  • SUP Open Inland Water Leader
  • SUP Coastal Leader
  • SUP White Water Leader (available from March 2024)

Support resources are available including a digital self analysis tool, skills checklists as well as the assessment criteria publicly available which can all be found on our website.

For Coaching qualifications there is our accreditation of prior learning route (APL) offering an opportunity for those with levels of experience to apply in having this recognised, which ensures that there is no need to repeat similar training that has already been attended.

For many paddlers that have used the APL route they have been able to progress straight to assessments.
