Description
Please note that this British Canoeing Awarding Body Safeguarding Refresher: Social Media eLearning does not meet the requirements of initial safeguarding training.
Most paddlesport participants will have a safe, enjoyable and fun experience, free from harm or safeguarding issues. However,, cases of abuse and harm do arise in Paddlesport, unfortunately. The very nature of Paddlesport encourages an open, friendly and welcoming culture. This brings with it a need for knowledge, awareness and vigilance around safeguarding.
By understanding good safeguarding practices, identifying situations where individuals may be vulnerable, and challenging concerning behaviours, we avoid putting those working with children, young people and adults at risk in vulnerable situations. This assists in deterring those with poor intent from working in this area, and therefore reduces the potential for harm.
This will provide you with the essential safeguarding-related information required when using social media to support paddlesport activities, including what social media is, the risks involved in its use and how to respond to social media-related concerns.
The Safeguarding Refresher: Social Media eLearning is made up three modules which cover:
- Module 1 (Core Module) – An overview of key aspects of safeguarding: understanding the risks, identifying and responding to a concern.
- Module 2 (Social Media Module) – key areas that will be useful when thinking about social media in relation to safeguarding, including understanding what it is, how it relates to paddlesport, some of the risks involved.
- Module 3 – A quiz to help you reflect on what you have learned in the eLearning.
