Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) has experienced a remarkable surge in popularity in recent years. However, along with this surge in participation, there has also been a substantial upswing in the number of individuals encountering difficulties while out on their SUPs.

RNLI lifeguards, for instance, have witnessed a staggering 422% increase in the number of SUP paddlers seeking assistance. A substantial majority of these rescues have attributed their occurrence primarily to offshore winds.

This research project was carried out by Darren Sherwood for Paddle UK in 2023.
