Developing Drive in Athletes: Coach Resources on Purpose, Commitment and Ownership

Presentation

Developed by Paddle UK Performance Psychologist Jonathan Smith, these resources on topics connected with Drive have been created to assist coaches working with developing athletes.

Drive is one of the four pillars of the High Performing People Framework. The resources included below aim to provide useful information on the key characteristics of Purpose, Commitment and Ownership.

The recommendation is to use these resources to help understand key theories underpinning the characteristics and to provide practical suggestions as to how to apply them.

The resources aren’t designed to be directly used by athletes, but instead to be used by the coach to think about how the information might be best applied with the specific group they coach based on their age, experience, and unique characteristics. If you have access to a performance psychologist then involving them in the conversation would be beneficial.
