Safer Recruitment is a set of essential practices to ensure paid staff, contractors and volunteers joining your organisation are suitable to work with vulnerable groups.

You earn 10 CPD points by completing this British Canoeing Awarding Body eLearning. These will be added to your National Association record after successful completion.

The Safer Recruitment course covers:

  • Why Safer Recruitment is necessary
  • Recruiting volunteers
  • The stages of recruitment
  • Interviewing
  • Pre-employment checks
  • Creating a Safer Culture

There is also a final knowledge check module, with a passmark of 100%. This can be completed open book.

The Safer Recruitment eLearning is not a Safeguarding course or a recruitment course. It focuses on the importance of including measures in your recruitment process to deter, reject or identify people who might abuse or may not be suitable to work with the children or Adults at Risk your organisation provides services for. If you recruit volunteers to work with vulnerable groups, you will need to follow the same kind of process although it may need to be adapted to be more informal.
